Let's Not Forget The Other Journalists

The release of Euna Lee and Laura Ling is wonderful news, as was the release of Roxanna Saberi (Medill, stand up!). I just hope that we don't forget about all the journalists who've been killed or jailed through bogus charges. Invariably, these reporters are silenced in places that desperately need them.
I speak of folks like Lasantha Wickramatunga, the editor of the Sunday Leader newspaper in Sri Lanka. Despite being a member of the Sinhalese majority, Wickramatunga bravely held the government's feet to fire over human rights abuses of the Tamil minority. He was the target of multiple assassination attempts dating as far back as 1998. All these journalists are working hard to disseminate truths and all their lives are important.
